Freddie Sears finally broke his goal drought as West Ham beat Wolves 2-0 and moved out of the bottom three for the first time this season.

Sears had not scored since his debut against Blackburn back in March 2008 and went 73 games without a goal following loan spells at Crystal Palace, Coventry and Scunthorpe.

But it was to be a day for the young forward who scored the crucial second goal late in the game to help West Ham move out of the relegation zone and give them a major boost as they look to beat the drop.

Wolves must have sensed it was not going to be their day after Ronald Zubar scored an own goal with his knee and now have it all to do if they are retain their top flight status after falling to the foot of the Premier League table.

Aberdeen end long wait for a win by beating Motherwell

Aberdeen recorded their first cinch Premiership victory of 2024 with a 1-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park.

Leighton Clarkson slammed home the decisive goal after 25 minutes to end a run of 12 games without a league win for the Dons and move them three points clear of second-bottom Ross County.

Motherwell thought they had drawn themselves level when Lennon Miller found the net five minutes before half-time but they were denied following a lengthy VAR check.

Torres set for two-year Milan loan

Chelsea have confirmed Fernando Torres will join Milan on a two-year loan, subject to a medical and personal terms being agreed.

Spain striker Torres moved to Stamford Bridge in January 2011 following a highly productive stint with Liverpool.

The reported fee of £50million paid by Chelsea represented a British transfer record only surpassed this week when Angel di Maria joined Manchester United from Real Madrid.

However, Torres has been unable to demonstrate anything close to his best form in London and is now in line to spend the final two years of his contract on loan at San Siro.

International friendly wrap: Spain thump USA, stalemate in Brazil

The United States will enter the CONCACAF Gold Cup on the back of a comprehensive 4-0 defeat to World Cup winners Spain on Saturday.

The US were given a lesson by the reigning world and European champions in an international friendly at the Gillette Stadium, Massachusetts.

Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas and Barcelona s Andres Iniesta began on the bench, while Iniesta s club teammates Xavi Hernandez and Carlos Puyol were absent.

There was still plenty of talent throughout the team, with Barca s Champions League winners Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and David Villa starting alongside Real Madrid men Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos.
